Split This Rock Poetry Contest

Send up to three unpublished poems, no more than six pages total, in any style, in the spirit of Split This Rock. This theme can be interpreted broadly and may include — but is not limited to — work addressing politics, economics, government, war,leadership; issues of identity (gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, disability, body image, immigration, heritage, etc.); community, civic engagement, education, activism; and poems about history, Americana, cultural icons. Deadline November 1, 2012.

•First place receives $500; second and third place receive $250 each.

•Winners receive free 2012 festival registration.
•The 1st-place winner will be invited to read the winning poem at Split This Rock Poetry Festival, 2012.
•Winning poems will be published at SplitThisRock.org

NOTE: Ah, nothing prompts creativity like passion and a cause. Poets have always considered themselves agents for change. This is a cool topic, and everybody has one in mind, I'm sure.

DOUBLE NOTE: I attempt to keep my finger on the pulse of change in this business, and here lately it's freaked me out. You see, when I do research, it's not only for your careers but also for mine as well. So when I freak, it's for ALL of us - LOL. I've decided to write...just write...for now. I'll let the frenzy stirrers keep stirring for a little while, then I'll make some decisions how and if I'll publish this work or that work. In the meantime, there's the freelancing as well. There's something cozy to me about freelancing. The projects aren't quite as catastrophic if they fall on their face.
