Electric Literature - a publication with sense

Electric Literature is a breath of fresh air. They want your fiction, and they don't want to take advantage of writers to fill the pages of their journal.

We pay writers, they don't pay us. We are proud to support writers who entrust us with their work. We value writing, we know how hard it is, and we believe writers are entitled to fair compensation.

Every other month, they select five stories for publication. Each selected writer receives $1,000 as payment. What's also cool is that they don't want to know your resume, your writing history or who you know. They just want your story, and that's how they select their material - from the quality of the writing only. Of course the writing needs to be strong from the first word. Submit fiction between 1,500 and 8,000 words. Submissions are welcome all year. No deadlines. They accept email or postal submissions. And they accept simultaneous submissions.

E-mail address: submissions@electricliterature.com
Mail address: Electric Literature, 325 Gold St. Suite 303, Brooklyn NY 11201.

NOTE: Wow - if only more publications were this open minded and simple. Note the testimonials, too. They are on Twitter, Facebook, iPhone, in print and online. Expect the competition to be stiff, though.

DOUBLE NOTE: Book two is making the rounds to publishers as we speak, per my agent. Keep your fingers crossed. Book three is on Chapter Nine. What's hard is balancing gardening, chickens, writing and FundsforWriters. Yeah, I know. What a problem to have - four obligations I love doing.
