The Helen McCloy/MWA Scholarship for Mystery Writing seeks to endorse mystery writing—in fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, and screenwriting. The scholarship is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents only. Membership in Mystery Writers of America is not required to apply. The scholarship is to offset tuition and fees for writing workshops, writing seminars, or university/college-level writing programs taking place in the U.S. in summer, fall or winter of 2011 or early spring 2012. Two scholarships for up to $500 each are issued in late Spring and are made out jointly to scholarship winners and their chosen educational institutions. Deadline February 28, 2011.
NOTE: Heck, I might apply to this one. I've never been to a real two or three-day mystery writers conference. $500 goes a long way!
DOUBLE NOTE: People have asked how's the novel coming. It's edited and in the hands of the publisher. I'm eagerly awaiting her response to my changes. I'm tickled with them, but of course, validation of those changes would be nice. Still trying to hammer out book three, which I'm THRILLED with, by the way. Lots more twists and turns, with a sophistication I'm quite proud of.

This sounds amazing. Unfortunately, along with MFA programs, letters of recommendation are required. I haven't been in school in at least 4 years, and I have no one to speak on behalf of my writing.
I'm glad to hear your novel is with the publisher awaiting approval. I'm a bit giddy for you.
Gee, I miss a few (months worth of) blog posts and look what happens. How exciting about your mystery novels!!! I can't wait to read the first one when it comes out. Congrats! And good luck working on number three.
