Nice Short Short Story Contest WITHOUT Entry Fee

The Bevel Summers Prize in the Short Short Story is open to all authors of stories of up to 1,000 words. Mail stories to Bevel Summers/Shenandoah, Mattingly House, 2 Lee Ave., Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA 24450. Deadline March 31, 2011. Send two copies, one with name and contact information, including e-mail address, and a duplicate with no identifying information, along with an SASE. The winner receives $250 and will be featured prominently on Shenandoah's first online issue. There is no entry fee.

NOTE: Thought you'd like this simple contest with few rules, no theme, and a respectable prize and no entry fee. Just perfect for the holidays.

DOUBLE NOTE: Edits are going great on the novel. I'm having to change some things about the ending (like who shot who). It's snagged me for the moment, but I have 3-4 days at Christmas to think it over, maybe run it by friends and relations. Imagine a death scene playing out at Christmas in the middle of ripped open gifts and one too many eggnogs!

I find that's the best time for inspiration to strike, when you're doing something else. Happy Christmas :O)

I agree. When I'm stuck I walk away from the pc and eventually an idea hits me - though eventually can sometimes take a while.

All the best in the new year!
