ALICE CONGER PATTERSON SCHOLARSHIP - SOUTH CAROLINA
http://www.emrys.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=59890&orgId=emr
The Alice Conger Patterson Scholarship is designed to encourage South Carolina women to pursue continuing education or to develop a creative endeavor in order to enhance a career in the arts or to change career direction. The Alice Conger Patterson Scholarship reflects the goals of the Emrys Foundation, whose mission is to promote excellence in the arts, especially literary, visual, and musical works by women and minorities.Must be at least 35 years or older, a SC resident and a US citizen. Must have demonstrated an interest in an existing career or a new career in the arts, which the scholarship would enhance. Grants range from $500 to $1,000.
NOTE: I know, this is just in South Carolina. My intention is to make you look at foundations. Affluent families exist in every state, offering scholarships, fellowships and grants to residents for various purposes. To find these opportunities, connect with your state arts commission, your local arts council, your local community foundation (do a search with your state and the words "community foundation"), your Chamber of Commerce, your state writers' organization and your university's creative writing department. Hey, I know it's work, but grants are no different than contests and markets...you have to do your research.
DOUBLE NOTE: Spent the day inserting more visuals in two chapters, putting the reader in the midst of my world, thanks to recommendations by my editor. God I adore that woman's insight.
